Dr. Penraat hails from Doornenburg, The Netherlands and graduated from the University of Utrecht with a DVM degree in May 1995. The veterinary program at the University of Utrecht is rated one on the top 5 schools in the world and is one of the world’s leaders of veterinary research.
Following his veterinary training he specialized further completing a one year internship and three year residency program focusing on surgery. Dr. Penraat completed his boards in 2001 and is certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.
He has a wide range of experience with numerous animal species ranging from Old World primates, Dutch Warm Blood Horses, Keeshond dogs (the Dutch Barge dog), to pet rats. He loves working with companion animals such as cats, dogs and pet rabbits and visiting with clients over a coffee in the farmhouse after a house call, which is common practice in Holland.
His special interests include soft tissue surgery, emergency medicine, endoscopy and practice management. Feel free to stop by and introduce yourself. He is excited to be part of the Brentwood Veterinary Emergency and Surgical Hospital team and would appreciating meeting you.
When he is not working, Dr. Penraat enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, cycling and volunteering in church.
